AL East rivals meet in one of three games on Monday’s MLB slate with their playoff hopes hanging in the balance as the Baltimore Orioles (75-81) host the Toronto Blue Jays (77-79) for the start of a three-game series at Camden Yards.
The Blue Jays are on the outside looking in at the American League playoff picture as the defending AL pennant winners enter Monday three games back of the final AL Wild Card spot with only six games left in the regular season. The Orioles haven’t necessarily had as disappointing of a season as Toronto after missing the playoffs last year, but Baltimore has had opportunities to make the 2026 postseason. However, it now finds itself on the verge of being eliminated from contention, sitting five games back of an AL Wild Card spot ahead of Monday’s series opener.
The Orioles will hand the ball to right-hander Shane Baz on Monday night to begin the series. Baz is 6-15 with a 4.11 ERA across his first 30 starts of the season.
The headline here is that Blue Jays rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage is making his return to the rotation after not having pitched in a major league game since Aug. 4. Yesavage underwent surgery to repair a torn meniscus in August and will look to pick up right where he left off after posting a 3.65 ERA prior to his injury. However, he is expected to be limited to roughly three innings of work Monday, with a plan for him to throw between 45 and 50 pitches.
